I've been waiting VERY patiently for this album to drop. Once I find the release date, you'll see it posted here, but I believe it comes out next week. Don't quote me on that : /

This is a really great album. Janelle Monae blends so many art styles and influences to create her own unique flare. You hear a lot of instrumentation and live sounds--the pace of the album is fast slowing down a bit with tracks like "Mushrooms and Roses". In my *ahem* younger days, this would be such a stoner album with the conscious lyricism, futuristic sound and of course she comes from the Outkast camp so she brings it. I'll post a more detailed review of this album soon. For now, sink your musical chops into this creative wonder.

The highly anticipated debut of DRAKE--THANK ME LATER

Overall, the album was a solid effort. In fact, it may become one of the best selling debuts of all time. I think it's safe to say that. Especially considering the insanely large amount of hype generated by the actor turned rapper. His previous role was nothing similar to "gangster"---a wheel chair bound basketball player in high school. Hailing from Canada, he was raised with an affluent background. How Drake continues to demonstrate his mass appeal is simply amazing. Since coming onto the scene, he has managed to spawn hits with some of the greats--including Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye West, and let's not forget the guy who put him on to big dollars--Young Money CEO and Founder Lil Wayne. It is definitely true that "{Young Money} gon' be alright if we put Drake on every hook. He sings just as much as he raps, but remarkably, he still manages to create an album both guys and girls will love. With club bangers like "Fancy" with T.I. and Swizz Beats and rap ballad collabos like "Fireworks" with Alicia Keys, Drake is sure to have a wealth of singles to choose from. He keeps it street with features from Nicki Minaj and Jeezy on "Up All Night" and "Unforgettable" respectively. The latter samples the Aaliyah track, "Let Me Know". The Kanye West produced "Show Me A Good Time" is easily my favorite track on the album. It couples an infectious drum cadence with scratches and familiar sound loops. Drake then confirms his penchant for incredibly catchy hooks that teem with simplicity and poignancy. You may recognize the "I" in the background is the same sound effect one used in "Run This Town", which featured Kanye and Jay Z.  Lil Wayne has only one feature, but it's certainly enough on "Miss Me". Jay Z provides some much needed advice to the  young Drake on "Light Up", another hit. Drake teamed up with hit-machine, Dream for "Shut it Down" and there is no reason to believe Dream didn't bring his A game.

The album really hits you on the second or third listen--at that point, you have the opportunity to really appreciate the lyricism and narrative style Drake is known for. He reflects on his rapid success, the temptations of the industry, and how these things have affected his relationships and personal life. Many times he seems triumphant and makes no effort to hold back his ego, while at certain points, one wonders if Drake truly has a handle on his G4 jet-fueled lifestyle. Singles include Find Your Love and Over.
